Two days had passed since the strangest sex of my life. It wasn’t the actual sex that was weird, but the fact that we did it right next to a painting of Joe’s grandmother’s vagina. It was also the fact that when I thought about that night, I couldn’t help but smile. We really did manage to pull off totally amazing, completely casual sex without feelings. It was silly that I’d spent so long avoiding him. There was nothing to fear. I’d misread my earlier inclination of what we were meant to be.

Knowing all of that was what had allowed me to return the next morning for round two. And again during convention preparation times, while the SCROTE-ites mulled around in the barn. And again that night, and once more this morning.

After this last time, I’d mentioned the rope I’d seen in his living room chair. He’d been very excited at the idea of tying me up...so excited, it had been damned hard to leave. I’d nearly stayed.

But soon, we’d promised each other. We’d play with the rope soon.

Kelly tightened her grip on the steering wheel and flicked her gaze to me. “What is wrong with you?”

“What are you talking about? I’m fine.”

“No,” she said, “I know what you look like. I’ve seen your fine face. This is a gross perversion like you’re high on a sugar rush after draining two diabetics.”

“I assure you, I am perfectly myself.”

She pulled my dented car into Joe’s driveway and parked behind his truck. “Ah, I see.”

“See what?” I looked out the window to the recently filled-in pit and to the recently fixed side of the barn. There was nothing of note.

“You and Joe. You made such a huff, but the two of you are inevitable.”

“I did not make a huff.”

“Mm-hmm.” She turned off the car and climbed out.

I climbed out after her, planning to protest. But whatever I had been about to say faded when I spotted Joe. A worn pair of jeans hung from his hips, not too tight, not too loose, perfectly showcasing his form. His hat hung down over his eyes, and a layer of dark stubble coated his jaw. The sleeves of his flannel shirt were rolled up to the elbow, and the top buttons were left open just enough that I could see a touch of the scratchy hair on his chest. That hair felt amazing against my bare breasts, adding a bite as our bodies crashed together. And who didn’t love a good bite?

He was standing inside one of the fences, with his hand out as a beautiful horse nibbled something off his palm. I was drawn to him, a smile pulling on my cheeks.

“You’re making my point for me!” Kelly called after me as I left her behind.

Joe didn’t look up at first. His focus was on the mottled gray animal. If ever there was a time I wished I had my powers, it was when I was with Joe. I wanted to know everything. What
